FWACAA Breaks Ground on New Education Facility at Smith Field Airport
FORT WAYNE, IN - Construction is beginning on the new Smith Field/Ivy Tech Aviation Maintenance Technology Facility and a groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled for Tuesday, December 5th at 3 PM. Upon opening, the facility will house the Powerplant portion of the FAA certified Airframe & Powerplant License. The Powerplant program educates students in the maintenance and repair of an aircraft's engines. This project has been "fast tracked" in order to begin offering courses in the fall of 2007. FWACAA and Ivy Tech are already in the planning stages to develop a larger facility to house both an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) program. The Airframe program is designed to teach students about the repair and maintenance of the hull of the aircraft and will complete the FAA's traditional A&P license.
